25. March 2012 08:07 by John in Dental Tips  //  Tags: , , , ,   //   Comments (0)

Prevention is better than cure. That goes the same with dental care.

We all need to be more watchful with the condition of our teeth. It should be one of our daily maintenance of our body.  Our teeth’s health is one area that can use more attention because we all know it is quite great to have cavities-free teeth.

There are sad effects of poor dental care. It could range from tooth decay to, gingivitis, periodontitis, and tooth loss. That is why we should take a moment and realize that proper dental care like just brushing your teeth twice a day can prevent such teeth diseases.  If we neglect cleaning our teeth everyday we’re putting ourselves at risk for tooth decay. Studies say that early signs of decay include visible holes in your teeth, pain when you bite and feelings of sensitivity or pain in your teeth.

So when harmful chemicals that are from the food and drinks that we consume aren’t cleaned from the teeth regularly, this will cause bacteria to build up more rapidly. It may result into plaque on teeth, so if one is a frequent snacker, it is advised that brushing the teeth should be done more often than twice a day. It’s a fact that cleaning teeth regularly prevents cavity-causing bacteria from progressing to gingivitis, or gum disease. However, going for regular check-ups to your local dentist would help as well.

So let’s keep our teeth clean and cavity-free by following a regular dental care routine of twice-daily tooth brushing and maybe daily flossing for that extra cleanliness. Your dentist or dental hygienist can give you great recommendations on dental care such as teeth whitening and treatment or maybe just a sound advice on proper teeth cleaning.

Tooth extraction is the result of tooth abscess

3. January 2012 03:50 by Thakur Dentistry in Dental Services  //  Tags:   //   Comments (0)

Dental abscess is a collection of pus that conforms in the teeth or the gums as a result of a bacterial infection. Do you have any idea about how this infection occurs? Let’s talk about it. Our teeth are made of a hard layer which is called enamel. This enamel covers soft yellow tissue called dentine. There is soft pulp at the very center of the tooth. Blood vessels and nerves are found in the pulp. A strong ligament known as periodontal ligament attach the tooth to the jaw. Bacteria are found in plaque. This is a byproduct of food and saliva. Now acid is produced by this plaque bacteria and it makes a hole in the tooth. This is called dental decay. Now the whole allows bacteria to envy the tooth and destroy the tooth pulp. After that most common type of dental abscess known as periapical abscess is formed. But don’t worry. This can be treated with anti biotic. To protect further infection a permanent root filling is put to the tooth later. Abscess sometimes occurs in the supporting tissue of the tooth. This is known as periodontal abscess. It is usually associated with gum disease. When the gum gets separated from the tooth it allows bacteria to collect pocket in the teeth root. Periodontal abscess can’t be treated with anti biotic. It is treated by cutting into the gums to drain the pus. To reshape the gum sometimes it needs surgery. Sometimes tooth needs to be extracted in result of a tooth abscess. If you don’t treat your dental abscess the bacteria can spread to other areas and can be life threatening.

Dental tips for people with diabetes

28. November 2011 04:00 by John in Dental Tips  //  Tags: , , , , , ,   //   Comments (0)

If you are a diagnosed diabetic, you are more prone for certain oral ailments or mouth weaknesses than others. You are at foremost risk for periodontal disease and other fungal infections. You should take some useful tips to keeping your mouth healthy is your best defense.

Keep your blood sugar as close to normal as possible: Whenever you will visit dentistry you must tell your dentist about the status of your diabetes. If you've had ahypoglycemic episode in the past (low blood sugar, also called aninsulin reaction), you are at increased risk to have another one. Tell your dentist when your last episode was, how frequently such episodes occur, and when you took your last dose of insulin, if you take it.

See your diabetes doctor before scheduling treatment for periodontal disease: You should discuss with your dentist about your overall medical condition before taking any dental treatment. If oral surgery is planned, your doctor or dentist will tell you if you need to take any presurgical antibiotics or need to change your meal schedule or the timing and dosage of your insulin. Make sure to give your dentist your diabetes doctor's name and phone number to include on your personal file. This information will then be readily accessible by your dentist should any questions or concerns arise.

Postpone nonemergency dental care procedures if your blood sugar is not in good control: Acute infections like abscesses should be treated right away.

Keep in mind that healing may take longer in people with diabetes. Follow your dentist's post-treatment instructions closely. People with diabetes with orthodontic appliances (such as braces ) should contact their orthodontist immediately if a wire or bracket results in a cut to their tongue or mouth.

Regular Dental Checkups:You should visit to your dentistry regularly. It will help in the maintenance of good oral health. It is also important to keep the dentist updated about your diabetes condition so that appropriate measures can be followed. It is also a good idea to inform the dentist about the diabetes medications being taken, so this can be taken into consideration before any dental treatment can be undertaken.
